How to choose the right paint colors

First off, before you decide what paint colors to choose, answer these questions:

Are you preparing your home for sale or decorating?
The reason why I am asking is because you need to use different colors for staging than if you are decorating.

Why?
Interior decorating is different than staging. It is personalizing - decorating according to your specific taste. Staging is neutralizing the décor by using neutral colors to appeal to the most potential buyers.

Paint colors are a very important part of the marketing process of your home. I highly recommend that you play it safe and not use anything too bright. Our goals are for you to find the right colors and successfully sell your property.

In choosing the right colors, stay neutral. You can find very nice calm hues that will compliment your home.

Analyze your home.
During the day, go through your house room by room and see what rooms are brighter and which are darker.

What to use in what room?
Usually you can use lighter colors in the hallway, kitchen, dining room, basement area and bathroom.

Benefits:
They will bright up the rooms and they will seem bigger.

You can use a bit darker shade of color in the living room, den and family room.

Benefits:
They will create a nice cozy, warm feel to the room, but they still seem big. If your realtor and/or stager thinks one of your rooms feels too small, use a lighter color to make your room seem larger.
